CHARACTERS
It is among the villages of these remote places that we have discovered a small hidden world, composed of the melancholic humanity of certain people who, in the perpetual imperturbability of the river, wander in search of something that seems to be hidden right in its mysterious waters, in the which our world seems to border on an otherworldly dimension.
GIANNI, the man of the stars
Gianni is a wastrel who lives for today by fishing, picking wild fruits and drinking wine in an old bar, somewhere on the river. After some glasses of wine, Gianni uses to tells everyone how, many years before, he witnessed an alien sighting right on the banks of the Po. Still today he wanders along the river to leave some signals, hoping to be found and escape to other worlds, searching for happiness. A never-lost hope that Gianni feels he shares only with Ginger, the gigantic handyman of the bar who, after a hard day's work, silently listens to Gianni’s tales and with him lights bonfires towards the sky.
PAOLO, the river's hermit
Paolo is an hermit who spends his days alone on the river, meditating on the great mysteries of life, to discover what might be after death. Driven by this curiosity and witness to extrasensory events, Paolo conducts paranormal investigations among the abandoned ruins along the river, seeking contact with the spirits that can still live there, with the idea that the water of the Po can be a door to communicate with the afterlife.
LUIGI, the river's preacher
Known by all, both friends and enemies, as Brother, Luigi is an elderly sinner looking for redemption. Still young, struck by the words of Saint Francis from Assisi, he denied his faith in the Communism and embraced the Christian one. Since then, Luigi retreats to the river reading the Bible and leads a devout life, helping a young parishioner to find her own path to redemption. A God’s soldier tormented by the Devil's seductions that, in the hope of Salvation, cultivates his intimate dialogue with God in the quiet of the river.
